During acceleration, the RPMs stay high to maximize power, and during slower driving, the RPMs stay low to conserve fuel. With a curb weight that’s only 97 pounds heavier than the standard Avalon, the midsize Avalon Hybrid sedan is able to achieve a remarkable 40 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway.
